England's best high walks 'on your doorstep'

Undoubtedly, one of the biggest draw’s in coming to the Glaramara Centre, is its ideal location for the great walks of the Lake District.  Walking is not a seasonal pastime and there is much to offer throughout the year. In particular, we highly recommend winter walking when the landscapes take on a new appearance in the seasonal sunlight. You have a choice of:

  • lower level walking within the Borrowdale, Langstrath and Seathwaite Valleys and, after crossing Honister Pass, around the Western lakes of Buttermere and Crummock
  • or you can test yourself by tackling some of the nearby fells.   Notable ascents include those for Scafell Pike, Great Gable and Glaramara, itself.  How good is it to say you are standing at the ‘top of England’! The High Fells are dotted with numerous tarns and ghylls so there are plenty of superb rest and view points.

You can either depart on foot from the Centre or use the local bus service to reach your starting point. If you wish to use the service of our walking guides please let us know.   We also have gear for hire.
