GMTV AT GLARAMARA
After a call, literally the evening before, GMTV came to do a feature at the Centre relating to ‘children being wrapped in cotton wool’ due to the perceived risks in undertaking outdoor activities. Management and staff had to be up by 5.00 am to welcome reporter, Rachel Harrison, and her team. A combination of some kind weather and a co-operative school, Swinton Community School from Rotherham, meant that the live report including interviews went well. The ITN outside broadcast van was besieged by eager participants wanting to see a re-run, which whilst only lasting a few minutes, provided great national exposure for the Centre. The photos attached give a ‘behind the scenes’ look at TV history in the making!
The following link shows the Centre and explains in more detail the subject matter of the feature http://www.gm.tv/videos/gmtv-highlights/36011-cotton-wool-kids.html.
As described on its website, the Campaign seeks to show that life is best approached in a spirit of exploration, adventure, and enterprise; to influence and better inform attitudes towards risk; to build wider regognition that chance, unforeseen circumstances and uncertainty are inescapable features of life and that absolute safety is unachievable: and to demonstrate that sensible education and preparation enable an appropriate balance to be achieved between risk and safety and achievement and opportunity. www.campaignforadventure.org/
