KESWICK BUSINESSES GO ‘GREEN’ AT GLARAMARA
24 local businesses turned out for the You, Your Guests and the Environment workshop on 19 March.
The event last Friday was organised by NLAP (Northern Lakes Accommodation Providers) , ‘Love your Lakes’ a Bassenthwaite Reflections project, and Keswick Tourism Association, and informed businesses on how to reduce their impact on the environment, save money and go green.
.
Head of the Love Your Lakes campaign- Ruth Kirk said, “ We had a brilliant turn out for the event and would like to run more workshops in the future. The workshop enabled us to give free practical advice on how accommodation providers can help protect our lakes through the use of phosphate-free cleaning products and help the environment by supporting “visitor payback” schemes.”
.
Talks were given by the Environment Agency, Fix the Fells, Lake District Osprey Project, CBEN (Cumbria Business Environment Network) and the Love your Lakes Campaign.
.
Amanda MacDonald from DollyWagon Guest House, Keswick explained how she has reduced her impact on the environment through the CBEN award scheme. She said, “If all the businesses in Keswick can just make small changes this will collectively contribute to improving the environment – it’s just about doing it bit by bit.”
.
Glaramara Director, Graham Oglethorpe said, “We were happy to host the event at the Centre, as we are committed to actively getting involved in promoting a sustainable landscape, on which we rely so heavily. Thank you to Keswick Fairtrade for donating the refreshments for the event too”.
