TREE PLANTING AT GLARAMARA
We are pleased to be working with both the Woodland Trust (www.woodlandtrust.org.uk) and Bassenthwaite Reflections (www.bassenthwaite-reflections.co.uk) on a project to introduce several hundred native tree species to the grounds of Glaramara.
As a result of the dreadful weather and consequent flooding in November, we, unfortunately, had to cancel a proposed tree planting day with classes from both Borrowdale and Braithwaite primary schools.
Over many years, visitors to Glaramara will be able to view the growth of such indigenous species as Alder, Ash, Oak, Silver Birch, Cherry, Rowan, and Hawthorn. We very much hope the local school children will still be able to come up and see how the trees are developing and help with maintenance.
Thanks, in particular, to Peter Leeson at the Woodland Trust and Rachel Graham of Bassenthwaite Reflections. For those who are interested in the Woodland Trust, as well as finding information on its website, you can call 01476 581111 or contact Peter at peterleeson@woodlandtrust.org.uk
We were also grateful for a couple of dry days when a group from University College Birmingham, staying at the Centre as part of their Adventure Tourism course, helped our Outdoor Instructors plant a number of trees.
