Education through Outdoor Activities

National Curriculum and Schools John Muir Award GOAL

Outdoor Activities for Young People

The position of Glaramara at the head of the beautiful BorrowdaleValley is particularly suited for the provision of a large variety of active outdoor activities. In addition, evening sporting and group activities take place within the safe environment of our five acre site.

Our Outdoor Programmes are ideally suited to young people and students, providing participants with challenge, fun and tasks specifically designed to develop confidence, maturity, independence and self esteem. Our team of qualified and experienced instructors are trained to encourage teamwork and communication, help to overcome any problems and build upon on young people’s strengths and interests. We think this is an exciting and positive approach to learning, development and achievement.

Activities providing Outdoor Education

Glaramara has for a number of years adapted its expertise in delivering outdoor activities into producing courses to suit the requirements of primary and secondary schools, cultural and foreign exchange programmes and groups seeking to gain nationally recognised awards. It is also a venue provider at both foundation and undergraduate degree for courses including Adventure Tourism and Geomatics.

Schools

For secondary and primary school groups, most aspects of our programmes have clear links to many areas of the National Curriculum and it is usual for individual schools to negotiate details of programmes according to their requirements. See our National Curriculum page.

Colleges and Universities

For college and university groups, programmes can be tailored to particular course requirements. The BorrowdaleValley is an ideal location for field study groups. We are also able to provide the venue and facilities from which you can run aspects of your course.

Scouts, Guides, Cadets and other Youth Groups

Glaramara is becoming increasingly popular with voluntary youth groups which are keen to promote outdoor activities and learning to their members. Often, these form part of particular Award programmes.
