An ever popular activity here in the Lake District, Ghyll Scrambling gives you the chance to have a great time getting completely soaked in an invigoratingly chilly rocky mountain stream or ‘Ghyll’.
There are two fantastic Ghylls near to Glaramara – Honister Ghyll which we go up and Stoneycroft Ghyll which we go down, taking on each watery challenge as it comes – tunnels, waterfalls, slides, jumps, dives and plenty of wading along the way.
Each Ghyll responds to rainfall so the final decision as to which to visit will be made on the day and is weather and group dependent.
We provide one piece warm undersuits and a protective outer layer and footwear if you need it, plus any technical equipment.
You need to be reasonably physically able and prepared to be completely immersed in cold water!
We operate with a group of up to ten people per instructor. Transport, hot showers and changing facilities are all included.
This is an excellent half day activity.
What to expect on the day
1Pick up from your accommodation or meet at the Glaramara Activity hub.
2Familiarisation and correct fitting of warm fleecey onesie, waterproof layers & helmet.
3Arrive at a ghyll appropriate for the group and recent weather conditions.
4Spend the next few hours splashing, dashing, jumping and scrambling in a Lakeland mountain river.
5Head back to Glaramara or your accommodation to remove kit and get warmed up with a brew and a hot shower.
