‘The Coast to Coast Walk’ is usually undertaken from west to east starting from St Bees in Cumbria and ending at Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire.

It generally takes two weeks and the second day is from Ennerdale Bridge to Seatoller in the Borrowdale Valley. The route includes ‘the Honister Tramway’ path which follows the historic tram line that was used to carry slate out of the quarries at Green Crag and Dubs to the mine works at Honister Hause (which still operates today). It then continues along Honister Pass which widens on the descent.

This section will benefit from the upgrade of the walk to a National Trail. The Lake District National Park Authority is one of the authorities working with Natural England to improve the line of the trail, signage and surfacing and to increase access for all.

Funded by Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, the upgrade started on the 1 Nov 2022, and is due to be completed in early 2026.

The Glaramara Hotel would be pleased to host you on the second night of your journey along this new ‘National Trail’.
