By Foot or Bicycle – We are next to the Coast to Coast Walk. We also particularly encourage visitors coming by bicycle or with their bikes.
Via Rail & Public Bus – The nearest railway station is Penrith which lies on the west coast main line. Penrith is 25 miles from the hotel and we can arrange transport from the station if required. Trains run regularly from all over the country to Penrith station and from there regular bus services link to Keswick (number. X4 X5) and then on to Borrowdale (number 77 77a 79). Due to the fragile nature of the Borrowdale Valley and limited road network we encourage our guests to use public transport, where possible. The bus timetable can be found on the websites of Cumberland Council and the provider, Stagecoach.
By Car – Take the M6 motorway to junction 40 (Penrith). Follow signs to Keswick and West Cumbria (A66). Head into Keswick, at the mini roundabout take the B5289 (signposted Borrowdale) which leads you south beside the lake (Derwentwater). Go past the village of Grange (on your right) and proceed through Rosthwaite. 7 miles from Keswick, just before the village of Seatoller, the hotel is on your right. We off road parking and encourage our guests to leave their car at the hotel during their stay, where feasible.
England's Best High Walks
Undoubtedly one of the biggest draws in coming to Glaramara Hotel is its ideal location with easy access some of the best walking the Lake District and its most famous peaks including Scafell Pike, Great Gable, Haystacks and Glaramara, the mountain which we are named after.
There is plenty of lower level walking within the Borrowdale valley and the surrounding area including the Langstrath valley. We are next to Honister Pass which leads to the Buttermere valley and lake.
You can either depart on foot from Glaramara Hotel or use the local bus service to reach your starting point.
